BJP calls for reality check on manifestos
Coimbatore, Apr 22 : The BJP today termed the election manifestos of the AIADMK and the DMK as ''unrealistic, impractical and deceptive'' and called for a debate to check if they were practical.
Speaking to newsmen here, Party Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu criticised the Dravidian parties for exploiting populism to the maximum.
'Gimmicks' like free television sets and rice only showed both the parties were not confident of winning the elections.
Warning that development could become a casualty, he said parties must make it clear on how they planned to mobilise resources to fulfill the promises made by them.
Mr Naidu also said there was no wave in favour of any of the political combines-- the DMK-led DPA or the AIADMK-led DPA -- in Tamil Nadu.
Referring to DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's statement that he was not averse to a coalition government, the BJP leader said it only showed the DMK had lost confidence of gaining a majority in the elections.
He also charged the Congress with going back on its promise to carve out a separate Telangana State.
Mr Naidu said the outcome of the elections in the five states will have a bearing on the national politics. The MDMK had already quit the DPA in Tamil Nadu and will come out of the UPA Government at the Centre after the polls making the Union Government vulnerable.
