BEG wins marathon rafting championship

Rishikesh, Apr 22 (UNI) Bengal Engineering Group (BEG) Roorkee displayed better skills and control as they steered their way to win men's marathon rafting championship on the final day of the All India Open White Water Kayaking and Rafting Championship here today.

BEG covered the 16 km river run in the Ganga from Shivpuri to the Muni Ki Reti in an hour and nine seconds. ITBP finished second with a timing of one hour and 57 seconds.

In women's category of the event, the UP team bagged the championship by covering the distance in one hour and 25 seconds, while hosts Uttaranchal (one hour and 27 second) emerged runners up.

In the rafting sprint for men the BEG emerged champions covering a 6 km stretch from Shivpuri to Brahmpuri on the Ganga in 24 minutes and 2.92 seconds, while the ITBP team, which covered the distance in 24 minutes and 13.54 seconds, was again the runners up.

In women's category of the event again the championship went to the UP Girls, who covered the distance in 28 minutes and 20.89 seconds, while the Uttaranchal Police, covered the distance in 30 minutes and 12.76 seconds to finish second.
