1 drowns, two missing in boat tragedy in Bhagirathi

Kolkata, Apr 22 (UNI) One person drowned and two others, including a girl, went missing when a small motor boat overturned and sank midstream in the turbulent Bhagirathi in Murshidabad district today.

The district Superintendent of Police told UNI that the ill-fated boat was ferrying ten passengers, including two women, from Raghunathganj to Sadar Ghat in Jangipur when it was caught in a violent current and sank immediately.

While seven passengers, including a woman and the boatman, swam ashore, three others, including a girl student and an old person, went missing.

Later the body of a 70-year-old person was fished out near Jangipur, while two others were still missing. Two divers were pressed into service by the local administration to trace the two missing passengers, the SP said.
