Villagers kill deer roaming in search of water
Nawada, Apr 21 (UNI) Wild animals, specially deer, roaming in search of water, fall prey at the hands of villagers as at least seven deer have so far been killed in Nawada district.
The forest officials have lodged an FIR at Govindpur police station against 18 residents of nearby villages.
As per reports, the wild animals sometimes enter the villages to quench their thirst as the water outlets, including rivers, ponds, canals and small springs in the forests located on the borders of Nawada district and Koderma and Giridih districts of Jharkhand, have dried up for want of rain during the past three years.
These animals are regularly being killed by the villagers. The FIR said seven deer were killed on April 14 alone. Despite a named FIR, no arrest had so far been made.
According to a report from Nawada, scared of the Maoists, the police and forest officials hardly ever visit the forests to take stock of the situation. The report further added that the forest officials were aware that about 5-6 deer and 10-15 wild pigs were being killed by the villagers every year. But no action had been taken against anybody.
