Tension in fishermen village

Pondicherry,Apr 21: Tension prevailed at Pudukuppam near here following the murder of a 28 year-old man belonging to fishermen community.

According to police Jaisankar(28) along with his friend Anbazhagan(28) was going on a motorcycle to a temple at Kanniyakoil near Cuddalore. When the bike slowed at a speed braker on Puthukuppam -Kanniyakoil road, a gang armed with deadly weapons pounced on them and hacked them.

While, Jaisankar succumbed to injuries on the spot,Anbazhagan was admitted to the government general hospital and is said to be out of danger.

There was enmity between two groups of fishermen in the village over disbursement of money received for tsunami relief. This is said to be the cause for the incident.

Following the death of Jaisankar, another mob ransacked three houses at Pudukuppam and burnt fishing nets and one motor cycle.

Following tension, armed police forces were posted in the village.
