Nominations of most of the candidates found in order

Chennai, Apr 21 (UNI) Nomination papers of most of the candidates, including AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, DMK President M Karunanidhi and actor Vijayakanth, were found in order on scrutiny today.

As many as 3,725 candidates, a majority of them Independents, had filed their papers for the May eight Assembly election in Tamil Nadu. In Andipatti where a total of 22 nominations had been filed, the papers of Ms Jayalalithaa and her DMK opponent Seeman were found in order. However, the nomination of three Independents were rejected.

In another star constituency of Chepauk, where Mr Karunanidhi is seeking re-election, the nomination of three Independents were turned down, leaving 22 candidates in the fray.

Out of the 298 nominations filed for the 14 Assembly constituencies in Chennai district, the papers of about 50 Independents were rejected.

While four nomination papers were rejected in Anna Nagar constituency, where DMK Treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy is contesting, only one was rejected in Royapuram.

The filing of nominations, which began on April 13, ended yesterday.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 24.
