K'taka orders inquiry into malpractices in Horti Dept

Bangalore, Apr 21 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged malpractices in the Horticulture Department in Bijapur district, Sericulture Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu informed today.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Naidu, also the Bijapur district in charge Minister, said an Assistant Commissioner would go into the various charges, including improper supply of seeds and corruption in distributing grants to beneficiaries, and submit a report to the government within two months.

He said he held a review meeting earlier in the day on various burning issues related to the district. Several decisions, including providing drinking water supply to Bijapur town at a cost of Rs 27 crore and 666 villages in the district at cost of eight crore, were taken at the meeting.

On the Sericulture department, he announced that farmers taking to sericulture in the state would be given 90 per cent grant for installing drip irrigation facilities. They would also be given free saplings, besides other facilities, with a view to promoting the industry.

A special package for reelers was also on the anvil, he said, adding that the government had already earmarked Rs 65 crore for various such activities.
