New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Sant Balbir Singh Sinchewal, who brought to life through 'kar seva' (voluntary service) a dead river in Punjab in which Guru Nanak Dev took a dip and attained enlightenment, met President A P J Abdul Kalam today and invited him to visit his 'work of Passion.

The President has agreed to visit 'Kali Bein' river and personally see the achievements of the Sant.

The sacred river had turned into a virtual sewer with several drains pouring into it from adjoining townships as well as effluents from a Railway Coach factory in Kapurthala before the Sant started cleaning it by drawing volunteers from the nearby areas, The 160 Km-long river that springs from Dhanoa in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab merges in the confluence of Beas and Ravi rivers from where Rajasthan canal originates.

The spring was bricklined during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar.

The river has now been embanked by stopping the entry of polluted water.

The Sant, who met the President this evening, was accompanied by former MP Mohinder Singh Kalyan.
