New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Hot Summer climes seem to be returning to the capital with a dry duststorm today leading to a sharp rise in mercury to 20.9 degrees Celsius.

It was a significant rise from yesterday's level of 17.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum too rose to 34.8 degree Celsius from 34 degree Celsius yesterday.

Though both the maximum and minimum temperatures were below the normal level, weathermen said the rise was nevertheless indicative of a rising trend of mercury after ten days of relatively cool weather, which saw the mercury plummetting to a low of 32 degrees Celsius earlier this week.

Yesterday too, the mercury rose to 34 degrees Celsius from 32 degree Celsius on Wednesday.

Weathermen say the mercury could register a further rise in the coming days since the Upper air cyclonic storm, originating from Rajasthan, had moved away from the Capital, this setting off a series of dry winds over the capital.

So, even though the weather was relatively pleasant today more so due to a cloud cover building over the capital towards later afternoon, the dry winds, the met office said, would cause a rise in mercury over the next few days, eventually leading to a return to scorching heat conditions.

So while the weather office has predicted a partly cloudy sky with thunderstorms over the next 24 hours and the possibility of light rain in some areas, they have also forecast a rise in mercury to 37 degree Celsius tomorrow.

At the same time, the weather office said the minimum temperature on Tuesday could touch a high level of 22 degree Celsius while the maximum could rise to 38 degree Celsius on Monday.
