Four naxals killed in an encounter

Warangal, Apr 21 (UNI) Four naxalites belonging to 'Praja Prathighatana' group of the CPI(ML) were killed in an encounter at Kataram village in the Tadwai forerst in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh early today.

According to the district Superintendent of Police (SP) Stephen Ravindra, a police party combing the forest noticed a group of naxalites moving around and asked them to surrender. But the naxalites opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence, he added.

He said one of the slain naxalites was believed to be Yadanna, the district secretary of the 'Praja Prathighatana' group. The rest were yet to be identified.

Police recovered four weapons including 8 mm gun and a Springfield Rifle. They also seized five kit bags from the place of the encounter.
