Final list of voters published

Barasat, Apr 21: The election authorities today announced the final list of 51,29,186 electorate in North 24 Parganas, including 24,02,307 women, who will cast their votes on April 27.

Several complaints were lodged by the candidates, including state Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty, who questioned the authenticity of the electoral rolls published on April 8.

Candidatures of 256 people were declared valid. However, the authorities raised questions about the qualification of SUCI candidate Partick Sarkar at Hasnabad.

The Election authorities has issued notice to a Basirhat candidate.

''Whether he had left the service or sought lien from service is not clear,'' a Returning Officer said.

Altogether seven candidates, including state Housing Minister Gautam Deb, were contesting for the Hasnabad constituency.

Electoral rolls were published with successive supplements following inclusion and deletion of electors in all the 28 constituencies of the district.

District Electoral Registration authorities, however, claimed that they had included 51912 names in the second supplement and 1,41,392 names had been deleted. Those deleted include dead voters, ghost voters and foreign nationals, official sources said here.

The published rolls show that at least 1.63 per cent voters were reduced compared to the final roll published on February 22 this year. It increased by 0.77 per cent compared to the draft rolls published in October 20 last year.
