Dunlop's Sahagunj factory reopens

Kolkata, Apr 21 (UNI) The Sahagunj factory of Dunlop India Limited in West Bengal today re-opened after a gap of more than 55 months for maintenance work to pave the way for operations to begin from this August.

The gates were opened this morning with 50 workers joining duty, a company spokesman said.

By September another 1,179 workers would join duty, he said.

The company's Ambattur unit in Tamil Nadu re-opened on April 10.

The company management had already reached an agreement with the two unions of the company's Sahagunj factory.

As per the agreement, of the 2,700 workers of the unit, 1,500 would be given VRS, while the remaining workers would be absorbed in the rolls.

The plant at the peak of its capacity would produce 130 tonne per day with LCV/HCV tyres as well as tyres for the off-the-road (OTR) vehicles.

Dunlop is also negotiating with a European tyre major to produce aero tyres so that the plant's capacity would be fully utilised.
