Delimitation Commission holds its first meeting in HP

Kangra, Apr 21 (UNI) The Delimitation Commission of India (DCI) today held its first public meeting for Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur and Una districts of Himachal Pradesh here today.

Presiding over the public hearing organized to hear public objections and grievances to the proposals for the delimitation of parliamentary and assembly seats in the state, DCI Chairman Justice Kuldeep Singh asked the people present on the occasion to desist from making political statements.

The job of the Commission was only to decide the boundaries of the Parliamentary and Assembly seats of the state and nothing more, he said.

Meanwhile, official sources said 20 objections and suggestions were made by local public representatives and individuals from Chamba district, 64 from Kangra district, 19 from Hamirpur district and 48 from Una district.

Election Commissioner of India and Delimitation Commission member NG Gopalaswami, State Election Commissioner Rajinder Bhatacharya, state chief election officer Prem Kumar, former state chief minister P K Dhumal, besides several other were also present on the occasion.

Several Congress and BJP MLAs, present on the occasion, also presented their suggestions and objections to the Commission.
