Patna, Apr 21 (UNI) A local court today rejected the petition of Sports Authority of India (SAI)s director general Ratan P Watal and its seven officers in a case of cheating and misappropriation of fund.

By filing a petition under section 205 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), it was prayed that all the accused were responsible officers of SAI and hence they might be exempted from personal appearance before the court and be permitted to attend the court through their lawyers.

While opposing the prayer, it was said by the complainant that it would affect the smooth trial of the case if the application of the accused was admitted.

After hearing both sides, the court turned down the prayer.

Abhishekh Kumar, a resident of Patna, had alleged that SAI officers cheated and misappropriated his money taken for investment in group insurance at the time he joined a Diploma course at SAI in Kolkatta.
