Basketball tourney begins Apr 23

Chennai, Apr 21 (UNI) A record number of 20 men's teams and nine women's teams will vie for honours in the second floodlit basketball tournament to be held here from April 23 to 28.

The tournament is organised by Golden Eagle Blue Star Sports Academy.

Mr R Elumalai, Academy Chairman and Mr Sampath, tournament covnenor said, the matches will be played on knock-out-cum-league basis.

After the knock out phase, four teams will qualify for the semi-final league and the league topper declared winners.

While the men's winning team would be richer by Rs 15,000, the women champions would carry home Rs 10,000.

The teams : Men: IOB, Indian bank, Valliammai Basketball Club (BC), Crown BC, Jasa BC, Ragavendra BC, BSNL, Writers, Lions BC, Posh BC, Southern Railway, Sports Excellence, Armed Police, SBI, Southern Railway Cooperative society, ICF, St Jopseph BC, Venkateswara BC, ICF Old Boys BC, Port Trust.

Women: Southern Railway, St Joseph BC, Vaydooth BC, Golden Eagle BC, Valliammai BC, All Star BC, St Marys BC, Jasa BC, SRM Rising Star BC.
