Army to get Zonal Access Network in Delhi
New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) The Corps of Signals is set to create yet another landmark in its quest to make the Indian Army a network- enabled force when Army Chief General JJ Singh inaugurates the Delhi Zone Access Network (DZAN) next week.
DZAN, aptly called the Mother of Access Networks, is one in the series of Access Networks -- based on broadband satellite and optical fibre links -- being laid out at various military stations to afford countrywide reach in fulfilment of the Corps of Signals' mission to roll out world-class networks which would equip the Indian Army with the wherewithal to fight future wars in a digitized battle space.
The Delhi Zone Access Network (DZAN) is a high-capacity, fully redundant, secure and ultra-modern state-of-art network based on several nodes inter-connected in a mesh topology with high-capacity optical fibre links.
These nodes are located across the length and breadth of the National Capital Region for providing multiple services to various users of the Army. The network is integrated with all the national networks of the Army in a seamless manner, according to an official spokesperson here.
The network design is unique and is being implemented for the first time in the country to seamlessly integrate various networks and facilities which will enable consolidation of all communication assets. This network will also implement Digital Local Loops for the first time thus obviating the need for laying lengthy copper cables across the city. The network is based on non-emitting media -- optical fibre cables -- and provides the necessary security.
Control and management of this complex network is executed dynamically from a central location using an Enterprise Management System which also optimises use of the network resources and assists in fault diagnostics.
DZAN is expected to usher in an era of Real-Time Information Exchange and take a step further in the transformation of the present-day platform-centric Indian Army to being a network-enabled force, observed the spokesperson.
