Itanagar, Apr 21 (UNI) Torrential rain, coupled with cyclonic storm, triggered landslides disrupting communication in Lohit and Anjaw districts in Arunachal Pradesh.

Official sources said here today the nature's fury had led to massive landslides leading to road blockades in both the districts.

Sources said roads have been washed away in many locations.

The roads from Tezu to Hayuliang, Hayuliang to Walong, Hayuliang to Hawai and Hawai to Choglangam have been damaged at many locations resulting in disruption of surface communications in both the districts.

Sources informed the total rainfall during the last two and a half months was almost four times more compared to the corresponding period in the last five years.

The magnitude of the heavy inundation could be gauged from the fact that the average annual rainfall reported during the last five years was 4000 mm, while this year it was 3300 mm only during the last couple of months, sources added.

The nature of damages was yet to be assessed in totality, but it was feared that damages to public and private properties, including dwelling houses, agriculture, horticulture, foot suspension bridges, roads and culverts, would be significant.

''No casualty has been reported and there is sufficient public distribution system (PDS) stock available in both the districts, '' sources said.

Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has taken up the road restoration works on war footing against all odds. The normal road communication would be restored shortly along with electricity transmission lines, sources informed.
