New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Eminent artist Amar Nath Sehgal today dedicated two of his globally-famous sculptures to the nation and assigned them to the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA).

Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni received the bronze sculptures, titled 'Crushing Burden' and 'Head with Horns' which were unveiled at NGMA.

Explaining the creative inspiration of his works, Sehgal said his lifelong quest has been promoting peace and humanitarian causes.

Applauding the artist's commitment towards humanity, Ms Soni said, "Sehgal's deep concern for human miseries, pathos and struggle for survival has inspired him to capture the basic essence of man and nature in all its truthfulness and spontaneity.'' She said Sehgal was an inspiration for the entire nation to work together and ensure growth, which must benefit every household.

Sehgal created 'Head with Horns' in the International Year of Peace in 1986, portraying the combined efforts to condemn acts of terrorism whereever it happened.

About the 'Crushing Burden', Sehgal said in 1984 he was commissioned to create a sculpture by the United Nations symbolising the efforts of governments and voluntary organisations to tackle the task of family planning.

It was meant to highlight the aims and objectives of the 1984 International Conference on Population.

''I produced the 'Crushing Burden' signifying the heavy burden of population in the voyage of life,'' he said.
