514 shops sealed on 16th day, 6046 sealed till date

New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Even as the BJP continued with its Jail Bharo Abhiyan against the sealing of shops in residential areas, the operation by the MCD continued for the 16th day today, with 514 shops being put to seal.

On the 16th day of Jail Bharo Abhiyan, 352 workers of the BJP in Narela district, including 30 women, courted arrest against the sealing operation. The BJP workers were led by the BJP Mehrauli district president Braham Prakash, legislator Ramesh Bidhuri, Vijay Jolly and former legislator Brahm Singh Tanwar.

Meanwhile, the MCD, as part of its shop sealing operation in residential areas, today sealed 514 properties.

Also, the MCD sealed 46 properties between 1700 hrs and 2000 hrs yesterday.

About 93 shops were sealed in Sadar Paharganj, 82 in Civil Lines, 60 each in Shahdara (South) and central zone, 49 in West, 44 in South, 36 each in Najafgarh and Karol Bagh, 30 in Rohini and 24 in Shahdara (North).

At the same time, the MCD desealed 362 shops today - 165 in Karol Bagh, 101 in civil lines, 26 in Najafgarh, 23 in Sadar Paharganj and 17 in Shahdara (South). About 18 shops were desealed between 1700 hrs and 2000 hrs yesterday.

With today's sealing, a total of 6046 shops in the residential areas have been sealed since the operation began on March 29.

Sealing action has already been completed in the city area.

A total of 1765 shops have been desealed till date.

Meanwhile, the five-day protes by the Delhi traders on against the sealing of shops concluded today.

The traders from different markets of Delhi will go on a relay hunger strike from April 23 to April 27.
