18 Corporators arrested for assaulting RJT Municipal Commissio

Rajkot, Apr 21 (UNI) Eighteen Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporators were today arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting Rajkot Municipal Commisioner Mukesh Kumar in his chamber on April 19.

Police said they were produced before the local court later where Judicial Magistrate A I Rawal released them on bail.

An FIR had been lodged against them on Wednesday when they had ransacked the office of the Municipal Commissioner and also assaulted him.

Among the arrested include Chairman of the Standing Committee Nitinbhai Bhardwaj, three woman corporators -- Damayantiben, Bhavnaben Vyas and Jayshreeben Parmar.

The others were Uday Kangad, Narendra Dav, Gambhirsinh Parmar, Kashyap Shukla, Harivala Danagar, Narendra Solanki, Lalubhai Parekh, Dr. Jayman Upadhyay, Kamlesh Mirani, Amit Bhoraniya, Babubhai Makwana, Atul Pandit, Mansukh Patel and Vallabhbhai Dudhatra.

The Corporators were against the behaviour of the Commissioner as they alleged that he had misbehaved with one of their colleagues.

The State government has asked Water Supply Secretary V S Gadhvi to inquire into the incident.
