Swiss player apologises for unsavoury behaviour

Chikmagalur, Apr 20 (UNI) Swiss player Marco Chundinelli apologised for his misbehaviour after losing his pre-quarterfinal match against top seed Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea in the ongoing ATP Challenger Championship here today.

The tantrum-throwing player was upset after losing the match and picked up a fight with the organisers. The frustrated player then kicked a chair which accidently hit the Deputy Commissioner's wife.

However, the situation eased after he apologised for his behaviour, following the intervention of Event Supervisor Vincenzo Bottone.

''I am sorry about my behaviour...I did not intend to hurt anybody,'' he said.

Right from the beginning of the Championship, differences had cropped up between the organisers and the players, with the latter complaining about poor accommodation and drinking water facilities.

It may be recalled that a singles match had been disrupted for about 15 minutes due to non-availability of drinking water.

The ATP Championship was being held in this coffee town for the first time.
