Pakistani forces kill wanted al Qaeda man-sources

KHAR, Pakistan, Apr 20 (Reuters) Pakistani security forces today shot dead a militant described by officials as an al Qaeda member wanted by the United States.

The man was killed in Khar, the main town in the Bajaur tribal region, where the Pakistani army has deployed in recent days to help an offensive by U S and Afghan troops against militants on the other side of the border.

''He was wanted by Americans,'' said a senior official in North West Frontier Province, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan confirmed the shooting in Khar but had no details about the identity of the man killed, other than he appeared to be a foreigner.
