Mufti urges voters to judge his government's performance
Rafiabad, Baramulla, Apr 20 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today urged the people to judge his government's performance during the past three years on the basis of relief they got in security and development.
Addressing an election rally here, Mr Sayeed, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief patron, said the people across the state acknowledged the relief they got on the security front as they faced minimum harassment in anti-militancy operations.
He said relief on the security front helped in bringing down the level of suspicion and alienation which was complimented by the overall development process put into place by his government making the people realise the fruits of peace and prosperity.
The former Chief Minister also expressed satisfaction over the cooperation received from the civil administration, the police, security forces and the Army to create a conducive atmosphere for the reconciliatory and the peace process.
It would not have been possible to create an environment of trust and confidence for initiating the peace process without their support, Mr Sayeed added.
He said the launch of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service on April 7 last year became the starting point of a larger process which brought down the decades-old walls of hatred between the two hostile countries.
Mr Sayeed expressed the hope that the Jehlum Valley Road would soon become fully operational for free movement of people and trade.
The time was not far away when apples, handicraft and industrial products from Jammu and Kashmir would be sold in Muzaffarabad and other markets of Pakistan and Central Asia, he added.
The PDP leader said this would lead to the revival of Kashmir as a business hub in this part of the world.
He also spelt out several measures initiated by his government for development of various sectors in the state.
Mr Sayeed urged the people to vote for his party candidates on the basis of his government's performance.
The PDP was the only party which has both political and economic agenda that envisions peace and prosperity for the people of the state and does not resort to hollow slogans, he added.
