Jaipal condoles Gouthu Lachanna's death

Hyderabad, Apr 20 (UNI) Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy today expressed shock at the demise of veteran freedom fighter Sardar Gauthu Lachanna.

In a statement here, the Minister described him as a great patriot who made invaluable and varied contributions to the nation both before and afterward independence.

Lachanna was a daunty champion of the downtrodden and struggled for their cause for more than 75 years. He was the last legendary marcher of Gandhiji's Dandi Yatra in 1930, he said and added his death had caused irrepairable loss to the nation.

''I have personally lost one of my valued mentors. I convey my deep condolences to his son Gauthu Shamsunder Shivaji and other members of the bereaved family,''he added.
