Haryana prepares for mustard procurement

Chandigarh, Apr 20 (UNI) Hafed has made all arrangements for the procurement of mustard from farmers in Haryana at the rate of Rs 1715 per quintal for which 65 purchase centres have been set up in.

A Hafed spokesman today said the procurement of mustard would be done through Cooperative Marketing Societies which had been adequately strengthened by Hafed.

In order to avoid inconvenience to the farmers, specific dates as per their desire had been given to them for bringing their produce to the mandis.

He said booking bonds had been issued to all the Mustard farmers with the help of Revenue staff and district administration.

Booking of Rs 6.5 lakh tonnes of mustard had been done all over the state by the farmers which would be the highest procurement of mustard in the history of Haryana.

In Rabi marketing season-2005 previous highest procurement figure was 3.06 lakh tonnes.

He said Hafed had made elaborate arrangements for storage space, transportation and finances. Payment to the farmers for their produce is being made promptly through cheques. A control room has been set up in Hafed Corporate Office through which round the clock monitoring of procurement operations was being done.
