CPM's plea on Polavaram
Khammam, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 20 (UNI) The CPI(M) today demanded shifting of the Polavaram Project site to avoid submergence of hundreds of tribal villages.
Addressing a meeting here on the project, CPI (M) State Secretary and Politburo Member B V Raghavulu said instead of paying thousands of crores of rupees towards relief and rehabilitation of displaced persons, the government could choose an alternative site.
Charging the government of being obstinate on the issue, the CPI(M) leader said his party would continue to fight against the project.
Though the Prime Minister had clearly directed that no project involving the submergence of more than one lakh acre should be taken up, the state government was going ahead with Polavaram.
