Blockade of Chhatisgarh-Jharkhand link road ends after 18 hrs
Garhwa, Apr 20 (UNI) After eighteen hours of blockade on Garhwa-Ambikapur highway that links Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh lifted today following announcement of relief by the Jharkhand government.
Local people aided by political leaders had put up road blockade demanding compensation for the death of nine people including five women in a road mishap here.
The blockade ended following the announcement of an ex-gratia payment of about Rs 60,000 to the family of each of the victims.
A large number of bauxite laden trucks and many long distance vehicles, which were stranded on the highway have started to move for their respective destinations.
The accident occurred when a truck ploughed over a crowd near Dumrunarayanpur village, some 3 kms from this district headquarters town when they were going to perform 'matikor' ( matrimonial rites).
Eight persons were also injured in the accident.
