BEG Roorkee, UP girls win rafting titles

Dehra Dun, Apr 20 (UNI) Bengal Engineering Group (BEG), Roorkie won the closely contested six km sprint rafting event in men's category while Uttar Pradesh bagged the women's title in the ongoing All India Open Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting Championship at Shivpuri, Rishikesh.

BEG completed the race in 24.02 minute, followed closely by Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP) at 24.13 while Army White Water Adventure Sports Association (24.13) stood third.

In women's category, UP girls finished the race clocking 28.20 minute, followed by Uttaranchal Police (30.12m) and IAPRO (30.24).

Total 36 teams from all over the country are participating in the championship, according to K D Fonia, President of Uttaranchal Kayaking Canoeing&Rafting Association, the organiser of the event.

The championship features Rafting Marathon for both men and women teams, Kayaking Marathon and Junior Rafting beside today's rafting sprint event.

Earlier, Uttaranchal Chief Secretary M Ramachandran inaugurated the Championship.
