AP Govt to hold "Ryutu Sadassulu" in May

Hyderabad, Apr 20 (UNI) Ahead of the Khariff season, the Andhra Pradesh Government will hold 'Ryuthu Sadassulu' (farmers meet) from May two to six to enlighten the ryots on latest farm techniques and ways to cut costs and improve productivity, State Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy said today.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would inaugurate the meet at three places on May two, he told a press conference here.

A live demonstration will be given by farm scientists to four or five progressive peasants selected from every village at the meets, at the revenue division level.

Banks had been asked to sanction Rs 16,000 crore in loans to farmers in the state early next month to help Khariff operations.

As many as 23 lakh farmers in 52,000 villages had been covered under the ''Ryuthu Chaitanya Yatra'' by Agriculture officials and farm scientists since April two to provide them with information on the latest farm techniques and practices, he informed.

So far, 33 per cent of the peasants had installed capacitors for their pumpsets, he said, adding soil samples from 2.22 lakh farmers had been collected for testing so far.
