11 building workers killed in fire in Moscow region

Moscow, Apr 20 (UNI) At least eleven building workers were killed today in a fire in builders' temporary cabins in Krasnogorsk district in the Moscow region.

The fire broke at around 0530 hrs in the village of Pashinskaya Poima. Six cabins with an area of 100 square meters was burnt down, the Emergency Situations Ministry told Interfrax news agency.

Investigators were looking into several possible causes of the fire, among them, short-circuit, defective heating or electric appliances and careless handling of fire, the regional fire-fighting service said.

The workers were asleep when the fire broke out. Most of them had no time to leave the cabins and died of carbon monoxide poisoning, the emergencies officials said. Four people were rushed to the Krasnogorsk hospital.
