VTU to tie-up with internationally-acclaimed varsity

Mysore, Apr 19 (UNI) The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, an internationally acclaimed university, has decided to enter into a tie up with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) from the next academic year to facilitate engineering students of both the varsities to pursue higher education.

Informing this to reporters during his visit to the VTU E-learning Centre in Sri Jachamarajendra College of Engineering campus here today, AIT External Relations Vice-President Vilas Wuvongse said a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed with VTU soon.

He said the understanding between the two universities would provide an opportunity for VTU graduates to pursue their post-graduation in AIT. It would also facilitate AIT students to study in VTU and colleges affiliated to it in Karnataka.

VTU was the first institution in India to enter into a tie-up with AIT, he added.

Dr Wuvongse, who was heading a delegation from AIT, visited various engineering colleges in the state.

AIT accommodated 2,000 students from about 50 countries and of them 80 were Indians. It's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) related courses cover software technology, telecom engineering, geographical information system and remote sensing.

VTU Vice Chancellor K Balaveera Reddy informed that 120 engineering colleges were affiliated to the varsity and as many as 1.5 lakh students were studying in these colleges.
