Traders observe bandh against VAT in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Apr 19 (UNI) City traders, mainly comprising of foodgrains and gur traders, today downed their shutters and observed a bandh in protest against the State government's decision to impose Value Added Tax (VAT) on essential commodities.

The bandh was called by the Foodgrain Traders Association and the Kolhapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which demanded the withdrawal of VAT on essential items.

All foodgrain markets, gur market at the Kolhapur district's Agriculture goods products market remained closed today and the bandh was total, claimed association spokesman.

The bandh was also supported by Hotel Owners Association and other organisations, he added.
