Seshasayee new president of CII

Chennai, Apr 19 (UNI) R Seshasayee has taken over the reins of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as its President, today, succeeding Y C Deveshwar, who laid down office after an eventful tenure.

A CII release here said that Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Group MD of Bharti Enterprises, was elected as the Vice-President of CII for the year.

Mr Seshasayee has been a member of the CII National Council for over 20 years and has been the Chairman of several high profile committees of national importance of the CII like Eight Plan, Economic Affairs, Defence, Surface Transport and International Trade and WTO.

He was also a member of the Government of India delegation to Doha Ministerial Round of the WTO in 2001. Mr Seshasayee has been President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

A Chartered Accountant by qualification, Mr Seshasayee is respected worldwide for his deep insight and maturity with which he steers a large corporate - Ashok Leyland, as its Managing Director.

He is also credited with steering the company to a pre-eminent position through his acute business acumen and foresight.

Mr Mittal has been a pioneering force in telecommunications in India and is recognised the world over for making India one of the leading players in the global telecom arena.
