Rane to lead delegation to Delhi for Dabolim airport expansion

Panaji, Apr 19 (UNI) The Goa Cabinet today authorised Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane to lead a high-level delegation to Delhi to urge the Centre to provide necessary assistance for speedy expansion of the Dabolim airport.

Mr Rane, speaking to mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, said the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has assured a financial package of Rs 500 crore for upgradation and renovation of the Dabolim airport while the Defence Ministry has assured additional land for the purpose.

Asked about the proposed international Mopa airport at Pernem in North Goa, Mr Rane said the Cabinet has not taken any decision on it so far. A committee, led by Mr Rane and constituted by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, has been empowered to take a decision on Mopa.

The commitee will hold a meet on April 24 which will be attended by all members including experts in civil aviation and will properly study the issue, he said. The committee has to submit its report within three months.

The Cabinet has also given its nod to a six-lane expressway project from North to South Goa. The Chief Minister and Chief Secretary will make an aerial survey soon to check the availability of about 90 meters corrider for the express lane, UNI SRN MAZ KD RN2153
