Railways Mysore Division posts 257.08 cr profit

Mysore, Apr 19 (UNI) The Railway Division of Mysore has earned a profit Rs 257.08 crore during 2005-06, a 13 per cent increase over the previous year.

In a release here today, Divisional Railway Manager Chandrashekaran said the passenger earnings had touched Rs 79.07 crore, up 21 per cent, and goods earnings Rs 178.61 crore, an increase of 7.6 per cent.

He said the Division had loaded 3.182 million tonnes (20.1 percent) during the period, as against 3,985 million tonnes the corresponding period the previous year. However, a major boost was anticipated during the financial year after commissioning of the Hassan-Mangalore line.

Mr Chandrashekaran said working expenses had risen by only 13.16 per cent to touch Rs 84.76 crore due to judicious expenditure control.

A fine of Rs 89.92 lakh had been collected during the period as against Rs 66.51 lakh the previous year, registering a 34 per cent growth.
