Rail Wheel achieves record production, profit

Bangalore, Apr 19 (UNI) The Railways-owned Rail Wheel Factory at the suburban Yelahanka here has achieved a record wheels production of 117,425 during the last fiscal and registered an all time high profit of Rs 10.74 crore.

The turnover in 2005-06 was Rs 59.55 crore, Rail Wheel Factory said in a release here today.

Rail Wheel would augment its wheel manufacturing capacity by 50,000 from the present 115,000 following Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's budget target of a 25 per cent increase in wagon production and 11 per cent growth in freight loading.

The release said the Factory had achieved the lowest energy consumption of 549 units per tonne of steel melted. The performance was 3.17 per cent lower than the consumption recorded the previous year.
