PM calls for another term for UDF in Kerala

Thodupuzha, Kerala, Apr 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today appealed to the people of Kerala to give another term to the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) as it always stood for the state's development and progress.

Addressing an election rally here, he said under the UDF, the state achieved tremendous progress in economic and social spheres, inluding health and education.

Kerala was able to achieve nine per cent economic growth, Dr Singh added.

The Prime Minister said it was necessary to bring the UDF back to power to eradicate poverty and unemployment.

The UPA Government at the Centre had cleared several projects for Kerala, including the one for development of Sabarimala, he said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala also addressed the meeting.
