Mainpuri, Apr 19 (UNI) The case file of a man, languishing in jail and mental hospital for the last 34 years over murder charges, has been missing.

Sources in this central district of Uttar Pradesh said that Om Prakash spent 14 years in a jail here in connection with a murder and was later sent to Varanasi mental hospital for treatment in 1986.

The man has been languishing in the mental hospital till date despite being recently declared fit by the hospital, as his case file with the prison authorities was missing.

A resident of Dilippur village under Kurawali police station area of this district, Om Prakash alongwith father Nathu Singh were arrested in 1972 for a murder. The court in 1986, sentenced Nathu Singh to life, but keeping in mind the mental state of Om Prakash ordered that he be sent to Kashi Mansik Chikitsalaya in Varanasi.

Abiding by the court order, the jail authorities sent him to the mental hospital in Varanasi, after Om Prakash had served 14 years in jail.

On March 25 last, the mental hospital in Varanasi declared Om Prakash mentally fit and sent the relevant certificate to Mainpuri jail authorities. The jail administration, however, have failed to take any action in this regard as the file of the case was missing, sources said.
