Journalists to observe ''black day'' this weekend: DUJ

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) today called for observing this weekend as ''black day'' in protest against roughing up of the mediapersons outside the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence yesterday by the followers of Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid.

Condemning the incident, the Executive of DUJ which held an emergency meeting here said "The dangerous trend of preventing mediapersons from discharging their professional duties and stifle the voice of dissent must be nipped in the bud." The DUJ called upon the government to come down heavily on those who attempt to weaken the Fourth Estate.

It also demanded that the government should immediately introduce risk insurance scheme for the journalists.
