HC extends stay on arrest of World Cup scam accused
Mumbai, Apr 19 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today extended till tomorrow, the stay on the arrest of Krishan Mohan Choudhary, an associate of former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jagmohan Dalmiya. Choudhary has been charged with the alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 21.74 lakh from the 1996 World Cup account.
Justice V M Kanade today extended the stay after the Defence counsel sought time to file a reply to the affidavit filed by the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police, which is conducting a probe into the matter.
On April 13, the court in its interim order had restrained the police from arresting Choudhary after he filed an application for anticipatory bail on the grounds that other accused including Mr Dalmiya were granted bail by the same court.
According to the prosecution, Choudhary was Dalmiya's employee and managed the accounts of M L Dalmiya and Company, which included work related to the BCCI.
The prosecution alleged that he was also an associate in the misappropriation of the World Cup funds.
