HC defers hearing on Nayak's bail plea till tomorrow

Mumbai, Apr 19 (UNI) The Bombay High Court deferred till tomorrow, the hearing of a bail plea of suspended police officer and encounter specialist Daya Nayak, arrested on charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Although the matter was listed for today before Justice V M Kanade, it could not come up for hearing during the court timings.

Nayak, who was arrested on February 20 after he surrendered before the ACB court following his anticipatory bail plea being rejected by the High Court as well as the Apex Court.

Presently, Nayak is in judicial custody at the Bhoiwada police lock-up.

Nayak's counsel has prayed to the court to grant him bail on parity since three of his associates have already been released on on bail.

Last month the High Court had granted bail to P Manivellan after the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) failed to file a chargesheet against him in a stipulated period of 60 days.

Incidentally, Nayak will also complete his 60 days in custody tomorrow.
