Former UP MLA injured in acid attack, flown to New Delhi

Allahabad, Apr 19 (UNI) Former Uttar Pradesh MLA Ramakant Mishra, who received serious 45 per cent burn injuries after unidentified miscreants threw acid on him early today, has been flown to Safdurjung hospital in New Delhi following his deteriorated condition.

Police said Mr Mishra was standing in front of his residence in the Balrampur House Colony here when he was attacked. The assailants managed to escape.

Mr Mishra was earlier admitted to S R N hospital.

Mr Mishra was elected from Bara constituency of Allahabad in 1980 and 1984 on Congress tickets. However, he left Congress in 1995 and joined the BJP. Later, he joined the Samajwadi Party.

The reason behind the crime is still not known. No arrest have been made so far.
