Foolproof security arragements for PM's visit

Kozhikode, Apr 19 (UNI) Security has been tightened in and around the city and Payyoli in the distrct in connection with the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow.

City Police Commissioner H Venkitesh said security forces, including the anti-sabotage squad, had been deployed in adequate numbers in various parts of the city to monitor movement of anti-social elements.

Besides, a large posse of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) had already reached the city to oversee the security arrangements.

Tight security arrangements have been made at Payyoli, where Dr Singh was schedued to address a public meeting in the afternoon, Rural SP Sherafuddin said.

A team of 17 SPG personnel, headed by a DIG, had been camping there for the last three days to supervise security arragements.

Traffic would be diverted/rerouted during the passage of the Prime Minister's cavalcade with minimum incovenience to the public, he said.

Meanwhile, IG Police (North) M N Krishnamoorthy said security arrangements in connection with the VVIP's visit was being coordinated under the direct supervision of ADG (Intelligence), Police HQs.

Dr Singh, who is on a whirlwind enterioneering in the state for two days, will reach Pattambi from Kochi at 1035 hrs. After a public meeting, he will arrive here for lunch and rest.

From Kozhikode, Dr Singh leave for Payyoli to address a public meet at 1500 hrs.

In the evening the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend another public meeting at Iritty in the neighbouring Kannur district at 1700 hrs.
