DUJ, PCI condemn attack on journalists

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) Condemning the alleged attack on mediapersons by the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid and his followers outside the Prime Minister's residence yesterday, the Delhi Union of Journalists called upon its members to observe black day today against "increased press bashing".

A decision to this effect was taken at extended executive meeting of the DUJ this afternoon presided over by its president S K Pande.

The Press Club of India also strongly condemned what it descibed as an unprovoked attack on journalists.

Terming the attack as an attempt to gag the media and prevent it from discharging its professional duties, the Press Club, in a statement, also demanded a high level inquiry into the matter including arrest of those responsible for assaulting the journalists.
