Dolphin killed in Bhagalpur
Bhagalpur, Apr 19 (UNI) A dolphin of rare breed, which is almost on the verge of extinction, was killed by poachers at Hanumanghat in Ganga river here today.
Dr Sunil Chaudhary, head of the zoological research wing of Tilakmanjhi University, said the anti-socials trapped the dolphin in a net and later killed it.
The dolphin was of rare breed and its total number in the country was only about 800.
''This race of dolphin is found in this region of the country and its number at global level is merely about two thousand,'' he said.
Anti-social elements had killed four dolphins during the last one year in the area, he added.
