Chennai, Apr 19: The Congress today assured the people of Tamil Nadu it would be the 'voice of the voiceless' and promised a corruption-free administration and due share of power for weaker sections like Dalits, minorities, women, unorganised workers and agricultural labourers.

The manifesto for the May eight polls, released here by TNCC chief M Krishnasamy, said the Congress would help DPA establish a political platform on which a benevolent government would stand erect.

Stating that a change of government would ensure an era of healthy politics, with no room for corruption and nepotism, the Congress said by voting for the DMK-led DPA, the people of the State could open the highway of progress and prosperity, which would ensure a government that saw eye to eye with the Centre on growth and development.

The manifesto said the new government would be built on strong pillars of principles - secularism, social justice, pro-poor approach in governance and corruption-free administration.

'To establish and protect such a government, the Congress will exercise all the political power at its command.' It said the party would fight for the share of weaker sections 'in the Indian rupee' and guarantee them development with dignity.

Promising steps to prevent commercialisation of education, the manifesto assured that it would make Tamil Nadu a State where there would be no children without primary education.

Better educational facilities in rural areas, financial and other support to help students pursue education, making available recent advancements in medical sciences to the poorest of the poor, best medical facilities in rural areas, healthy environment for government servants, meeting their legitimate demands, women empowerment, setting up more women Self Help Groups (SHGs), better conditions and social security for textile workers and weavers were among other promises.

The Congress also said it would take steps to revive the State Legislative Council.
