CM to present State awards in art

Panaji, Apr 19 (UNI) Sixteen eminent personalities in the field of culture will be honoured with State awards on April 25 for their contribution and achievement in the various forms of art like music, drama, theatre, folk art, craft, literature and photography.

Minister for Arts and Culture Digamber Kamat today announced the names of 16 awardees-- Govind Hirve, Chandrakant K Borkar and Ravindra Amonkar (Drama), Ramchandra Otavanekar, Josinho D'Souza and Narrotam Parvatkar (Music), Sakharam Naroji (Craft), Madhavi Desai, Dr Bicaji Ghanekar and Brazinho Soares (Literature), Antonio Inacio J D'Souza (Konkani drama), Kamlakant B Arondekar, Mussolini Menezes, Ulhas Buyao and Ladu Krishna Naik Gaunekar (Folk Art) and Palmira Coutinho (Photography) The award, comprising a cash of Rs 20,000, a momento and a certificate, will be presented by Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane, Mr Kamat said.

So far, 170 such awards have been presented to the outstanding artists.
