City court sentences one to 7-year RI for raping minor

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) A city court today sentenced a 30 year-old-man to seven-year imprisonment for raping a 13 year-old-girl in Sarita Vihar in South-West Delhi three years ago.

After hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S P Garg, held Mukut guilty of raping the girl and sentenced him to seven-year imprisonment.

The court further slapped a fine of Rs 500 on Mukut.

The victim, deposed in the court that, she had come to Delhi along with her close friend Neelu in search of a job. When she failed to get it, she decided to return. Neelu promised to take her her village. But she could not do it, according to the prosecution.

On the day of incident, July 20, 2003, at about 2300 hours, the victim met the convict Mukut along with his friend Sanjay. Both offered her to her to take her village. On the way, Sanjay went somewhere on the pretext of taking water. Mukut took her to a nearby jungle, gagged her mouth and raped her. He also threatened to kill her if she raised alaram, according to the prosecution.

''The victim had to suffer humiliation in society for no fault of hers. The convict deserves no leniency,''Mr Garg said in his order.

Mukut was convicted under section 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
