BJP leader shot dead in UP

Mainpuri, Apr 19 (UNI) Armed criminals shot dead a BJP leader and injured his brother and father in the Raizada area of this central Uttar Pradesh district this evening.

Police Superintendent K Satyanaraynan here said five armed criminals reached the ghee shop of Pankaj Gupta -- also a local BJP leader -- and made an abortive bid to loot the shop. When the shop owners tried to resist, the criminals opened fire killing Pankaj on the spot and injuring his father Gyan Swarup Gupta and brother Niraj Gupta.

One of the criminals was also killed in firing by his associates, while the police managed to get hold of three others, Mr Satyanaraynan added.
