Baba arrested on charges of raping minor girls

Ludhiana, Apr 19 (UNI) The police today raided a 'dera' at Ladhowal village and arrested Baba Balwant Singh (53) on charges of raping minor mentally challenged girls, police here said.

According to police, the victims were those left at the 'dera' by their parents as Baba Balwant Singh and his co-accused Baba Jaswant Singh claimed that they possessed 'mystical' powers to cure mentally challenged children. The innocent residents of nearby villages often left their children including a number of girls aged from 11 to 15 years at the 'dera'.

The matter was reported to the police by none other than the son of Baba Balwant Singh, who had reportedly been thrown out of the 'dera' along with his mother. The police raided the 'dera' and arrested Baba Balwant Singh while Baba Jaswant Singh managed to give a slip to the cops.

The police registered a case and were investigating the matter.
